Board of Directors

The Skate AB | NT | NU Nominating Sub-Committee is now accepting applications for five positions on the Board of Directors. The following positions are up for election:

Board of Director Elections and Application

Board Committees

Board committees provide focused oversight and strategic guidance to help the Board make informed decisions and ensure the organization is well-governed, financially sound, and aligned with its long-term goals.

Each committee is supported by an assigned staff resource who assists with coordination, preparation of materials, administrative duties, and directional support as needed, ensuring the work is organized, efficient, and manageable for volunteer members.

Board of Director Elections and Application

Strengthens the member experience by monitoring trends, gathering feedback, overseeing recognition programs, and ensuring services remain inclusive and aligned with Section and Skate Canada policies
Comprised of Board members and up to 2 non-Board members.
Time Commitment:
- Meetings held as required
  - typically 1 - 1.5 hours
- Estimated 2 hours of preparation or follow-up between meetings
Ideal Member:
- You would bring experience in member engagement, community development, customer service, program evaluation, data interpretation, or awards/recognition programs.
- You have a strong commitment to inclusivity, relationship building, and understanding the diverse needs of clubs and skating schools across the section.

Protects the organization's financial health and sustainability by overseeing budgeting, financial reporting, investments, audits, and actively managing organizational risk.
Comprised of Board members and up to two non-Board members.
Time Commitment:
- Meetings are held as required
  - typically 1 - 1.5 hours
- Estimated 2-3 hours of preparation or follow-up between meetings.
Ideal Member:
- You have experience or expertise in finance, accounting, auditing, risk management, investments, and/or legal or regulatory compliance.
- You also bring strong analytical thinking, sound judgment, and a commitment to responsible financial stewardship and risk oversight.

Ensures strong governance and leadership accountability by overseeing bylaws, Board processes, policy development, and executive leadership review.
Comprised of Board members and up to two non-Board members.
Time Commitment:
- minimum of five meetings are held as required.
  - typically 1 - 1.5 hours.
- Approximately 2-3 hours of preparation or follow-up between meetings.
Ideal Member:
- You bring experience in governance, policy development, board operations, human resources, strategic planning, leadership development, or organizational effectiveness.
- You also bring sound judgment, discretion, and a strong commitment to transparency, accountability, and ethical leadership.

Oversees recruitment, succession planning, and election processes to ensure fair, transparent, and diverse leadership for the Board and key elected roles.
Time commitment:
- Minimum of five meetings are held as required throughout the year
  - typically 1 - 1.5 hours
- approximately 1 hour preparation between meetings
- time increases modestly during peak recruitment and AGM election periods.
Ideal Member:
- You bring experience in governance, recruitment, succession planning, policy interpretation, and leadership development.
- You also bring strong judgment, discretion, objectivity, and a commitment to fairness, transparency, and diversity in leadership representation.

Operational Committees

Operational Committees Volunteer Application

Operational Committees support the day-to-day execution of the Sections programs, pathways, competitions, coaching, officiating, athlete development, and regional leadership.

Each committee strengthens quality, supports volunteers and clubs, and helps translate the Board's strategic direction into operational action across the Section.

They report to the Executive Director and is supported by an assigned staff resource who will assist with coordination, preparation of materials, administrative duties, and alignment with organizational priorities.

Supports recruitment, development, assignment, and promotion of officials to ensure high technical standards and integrity in competitions and assessments.
Ensures officials are supported through mentorship, training, pathway planning, and transparent performance processes.
Time Commitment:
- Minimum of meetings 4 times per year
  - typically 1-1.5 hours
- Approximately 2-3 hours of preparation or working group contributions between meetings.
  - this number may vary to a greater amount of hours.
Ideal Member:
- You bring expertise as judges, evaluators, data specialists, or technical officials, and represent a cross section of disciplines and communities across the Section.
- You also provide technical training and mentorship, along with strong organizational skills, leadership experience, and a commitment to fairness, transparency, and technical excellence.

Guides athlete development pathways, funding, and performance initiatives to support success from grassroots to podium.
The committee is comprised of technical experts, coaches, officials, and Section staff.
Time Commitment:
- Minimum of 3 meetings per year
  - typically 1 - 1.5 hours
- Approximately 2-3 hours of preparation, working group collaboration, or review between meetings.
Ideal Member:
- You bring experience in athlete development, coaching, officiating, sport science, program design, long-term athlete development (LTD), or funding administration.
- You also represent a cross section of disciplines and communities across the Section.

Strengthens coaching standards, education, and communication across the Section while ensuring the voices of coaches are represented.
Comprised of elected Regional Coaching Representatives who serve two-year terms and vote at the Section AGM.
Time Commitment:
- Minimum of 2 times per year
  - typically 1 - 1.5 hours
- Approximately 2-3 hours of preparation or follow-up between meetings.
Ideal Members:
- You are active coaches in good standing
- You also bring coaching experience, NCCP knowledge, mentorship capability, leadership skills, and represent a diverse regions and disciplines across the section.
Deadline to apply as a Region Coaching Representative is: March 31, 2026, at 12:00pm (noon) MT

Region Coaching Representative Elections

Oversees competition planning, policies, site selection, and competition calendar development to ensure safe, consistent, and high-quality competitive opportunities across the Section.
Comprised of volunteers representing competitions, officials, athlete development, coaching, and regional perspectives.
Time Commitment:
- Minimum of meeting 5 times per season
  - typically 1-1.5 hours per meeting
- Approximately 1-2 hours of preparation in advance of meeting depending on agenda items and seasonal workload
Ideal Member:
- You bring experience in competition hosting, event management, technical officiating, coaching, athlete development, or club leadership.
- You also have strong organizational skills, risk awareness, policy interpretation capability, and a commitment to continuous improvement and safe sport principles.

Serving as the intermediary between the Section Office and Local Region Committees, members strengthens communication, leadership, and club support across the Section while leading key initiatives such as regional surveys and annual award adjudication.
Comprised of elected Region Representatives who live in and represent clubs within their Region.
Time Commitment:
- Meets four times per year
  - typically 1-1.5 hours.
- Approximately 1 hours of preparation in advance of each meeting
- In addition, once per year (typically in March), Region Representatives work collaboratively with members of their Local Region Committees to adjudicate Section Awards nominations
  - this requires an additional time commitment depending on the number of nominations received within the Region.
Ideal Members:
- You bring current or recent club board experience, regional leadership capability, strong communication and facilitation skills, the ability to review and assess information objectively, and represent diverse communities and geographic areas within the Section.
