Volunteer & Clubs Awards


Section Volunteer Award

This award recognizes an active Club and/or Region volunteer whose contributions reflect passion for the sport and its participants, and is a role model for other volunteers, coaches and skaters.

This award will be presented to one person in each of the nine Skate AB|NT|NU Regions. The Region winner will be selected by the Local Region Awards Selection Committee. An overall Section Winner will then be selected from the Region winners by the Skate AB|NT|NU Awards Selection Committee.

The Award will be presented to the Section winner at the Skate AB|NT|NU Annual Awards Banquet who best meets the following criteria:

Criteria

  • Active and currently registered adult volunteer whose club and/or region efforts have produced specific, positive results in his/her/their section
  • An individual whose contributions reflect passion for the sport and its participants
  • An individual who is an exemplary role model for other volunteers, skaters and/or coaches
  • Has a minimum of five years of volunteer work in the sport of skating
  • Shows an awareness and interest in the future direction of the sport

Marilyn Chidlow Volunteer Award

The Marilyn Chidlow Volunteer Award recognizes the efforts of grassroots volunteers who work diligently to ensure club skating programs and skating family members are successful. In support of volunteers dedicated to the Section’s Clubs and Skating Schools, the Section would like to recognize one volunteer in each club and skating school per year. In recognition, a lapel pin and certificate will be provided to the recipients of this award.

The Marilyn Chidlow Volunteer Award is a once in a lifetime award. Please refer to the list of past recipients prior to submitting a nomination:

25 & 50 Year Service Award

Recognizes volunteers who have contributed 25 and 50 years of service to the sport of figure skating.

Club and/or Region volunteer whose contributions reflect passion for the sport and its participants, and is a role model for other volunteers, coaches and skaters.

Section Elizabeth Swan Memorial Award

The purpose of this award is to recognize an individual for his/her/their dedication and contribution to the discipline of synchronized skating in Skate AB|NT|NU

Nominations for the Elizabeth Swan Memorial Award will be submitted to the Section and one winner will be determined by the Skate AB|NT|NU Awards Selection Committee.

The award will be presented at the Skate AB|NT|NU Awards Banquet.

Criteria

  • Active adult volunteer (including officials, event organizers, administrators and representatives, etc.) recognized for his/her contribution to synchronized skating
  • Reflect the characteristics of Elizabeth Swan - dedication, perseverance, commitment, passion and spirit
  • A strong desire and interest in promoting the sport of synchronized skating within and beyond the skating community
  • An individual who is aware of, and supports, the development of all levels of synchronized skating
  • An individual who has given at least 2 years to the discipline of synchronized skating in a volunteer capacity

National Volunteer & Clubs Award

National Volunteer Award

This award will be presented at the Skate Canada Ice Summit to one person from each of the ten Sections who meets the following criteria:

Criteria

  • Active and currently registered adult volunteer in good standing whose efforts have produced specific, positive results in his/her section
  • An individual whose contributions reflect passion for the sport and its participants
  • An individual who is an exemplary role model for other volunteers, skaters and/or coaches
  • Has a minimum of ten years volunteer work in the sport of skating
  • Shows an awareness and interest in the future direction of the sport
  • Embodies and exemplifies Skate Canada values of safety, integrity, collaboration, excellence and innovation

National Club/School Award

This award will be presented to one club or school that demonstrates exceptional performance, exemplifies Skate Canada values, maintains or increases its registration, meets or exceeds all program delivery standards, demonstrates strong collaboration among its volunteers, coaches and administrators, employs innovative marketing and social media strategies and cultivates a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment.

Criteria

Nominees must meet the minimum criteria defined below and must consent to their nomination.

  • An active and operational, registered club or school in good standing
  • Demonstrates that it supports, and meets or exceeds all program delivery standards
  • Demonstrates strong collaboration among its volunteers, coaches, and administrators
  • Demonstrates effective and innovative marketing and social media strategies
  • Cultivates and maintains a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment
  • Embodies and exemplifies Skate Canada values of safety, integrity, collaboration, excellence and innovation

This award will be presented to one club or school at the Skate Canada Ice Summit.  Skate Canada reserves the right to not present this award in any given year.  The Skate Canada President, chair of the Program Development Committee, Senior Manager Coaching, Senior Manager Skating Programs and Corporate Services Director will select the winner.

National Event Volunteer Award

The purpose of the National Event Volunteer Award is to recognize the dedication and achievements of the volunteer in this category. The recipient will be selected for his/her unique advancement and outstanding contributions to our sport in the successful execution of an international or domestic event hosted by Skate Canada during the past year.

Criteria

Nominees must meet the minimum criteria defined below and must consent to their nomination.

  • Must have volunteered (in an LOC or local volunteer capacity) at least once in an international or national* event hosted by Skate Canada in the current event season
  • Must have gone above and beyond the assigned volunteer role at the event, making a positive difference
  • Must be keen to mentor and is an exemplary role model for other volunteers
  • Must show an awareness and interest in the future direction of the sport
  • Must inspire everyone to experience the joy of skating
  • Embodies and exemplifies Skate Canada values of safety, integrity, collaboration, excellence and innovation

*National events include Skate Canada Challenges, Canadian Tire National Skating Championships and Novice Canadian Championships/ Skate Canada Cup. Nominations may be submitted by the Local Organizing Committee and any volunteer of an international or domestic event hosted by Skate Canada as well as the Skate Canada Organizing Committee event execution staff.

This award will be presented to one person at the Skate Canada Ice Summit. Skate Canada reserves the right to not present this award in any given year. The winner will be selected by a panel which consists of the Skate Canada President, Senior Director Events and Production Services, Event Manager, and Event Volunteer Program Coordinator.

National Operational Committee Member Award

This award will recognize a current Operational Committee Member who reinforces and embodies Skate Canada’s values and provides exemplary service to the organization.

Criteria

Nominees must meet the minimum criteria defined below and must consent to their nomination.

  • An individual who is currently registered and in good standing with Skate Canada
  • A current member of a national operational committee
  • Demonstrated knowledge of Skate Canada programs philosophies, vision and mission
  • An individual who has provided exemplary service to Skate Canada
  • Reinforces and embodies Skate Canada’s values of safety, integrity, collaboration, excellence and innovation

This award will be presented to one person at the Skate Canada Ice Summit. Skate Canada reserves the right to not present this award in any given year. The Skate Canada President, Skate Canada Chief Executive Officer, Senior Director Operations, Senior Director Events and Production Services, and Senior Director Performance Excellence will select the winner.
