Professional Coach Membership Procedure
Important Coach Information Update: Registration
Coaches must be Skate Canada coaching members ‘in good standing’ at all times while they are actively coaching! Coaches must be aware of their First Aid, Code of Ethics, and BackCheck expiry dates in order to maintain the ‘in good standing’ status.
Skate Canada continues to provide world class skating and coaching programs to support the needs of our evolving sport. While we strive to offer quality development opportunities to help refine current or acquire new skills, we are also committed at implementing simple and effective processes to maintain the best interest of Skate Canada stakeholders a priority.
Please note the following summary of changes:
- Mandatory participation in the Continuous Education Program (CEP) is no longer required in order to obtain a Skate Canada coach membership
- The Make Ethical Decision (MED) online evaluation module is now part of the NCCP certification process and no longer required for a Skate Canada coach membership.
- An electronic tool to verify a coach’s status will be made available to stakeholders who need this information – coaches, clubs/skating schools, and Section Course Administrators. Moving forward, Skate Canada will no longer provide coach membership cards.

Coaches are required to complete a Volunteer Criminal Record Check – EPIC online via www.backcheck.net/skatecanada. This check can be completed in three simple steps!
